The Bernedoodle is a mixed breed that occurs when a Bernese Mountain Dog is crossed with a Miniature Poodle. Many people are not yet familiar with the Bernese Mountain Dog even though it has ancient origins. Bernese Mountain dogs were brought to Switzerland over 2,000 years ago by the Romans and have been bred from Bred Mastiffs and other guard-type breeds. These loveable large-sized breeds are just one of the four breeds of Sennenhund-type dogs from the Swiss Alps that were known primarily as working farm dogs. When crossed with a Poodle, the Bernedoodle breed was born!

When shopping for a Mini Bernedoodle Puppy, you will notice the genetic classification as follows:
^{F1 – First generation cross. 50% Bernese Mountain Dog and 50% Poodle. The F1 Bernedoodle cross is considered the healthiest, as the parents have the least likelihood of contributing genes for common inheritable diseases.}
^{F1b – A back cross between an F1 Bernedoodle and a Poodle. 25% Bernese Mountain Dog and 75% Poodle. F1b Bernedoodles are even more likely to be non-shedding and allergy-friendly.}

Although a relatively new breed, the Bernedoodle’s popularity has continued to grow due to the nature of their high intelligence, loyalty, superior health and longevity. What's more, the Bernedoodle is low to non-shedding, making it a good choice of breed for most people who suffer from allergies.

Bernedoodles are loyal dogs, with fun-loving, gentle and often goofy personalities. Due to their nature, bernedoodle's make great guard dogs and are very attached to their owners and families. Bernedoodles are also highly intelligent like the Goldendoodles and therefore are very easy to train. Bernedoodles are good with children and excellent family dogs. Bernedoodles need less exercise and are overall more docile and less energetic than Goldendoodles, but they still enjoy walking and playing outdoors. You should choose a Bernedoodle if you have a slightly less active lifestyle and love a dog with a gentle, calm demeanor that requires less exercise.

Bernedoodles like to be with people and are very social animals, so if you plan on leaving your dog alone for a long time during the day, the Bernedoodle is probably not the right choice for you. Great cuddlers, snugglers, and always affectionate, the Bernedoodle is happiest when it’s around its owners. Bernedoodles can be known as “Velcro dogs” because they are very attached to their families and do not like to be alone. Although exercise isn’t top of their list, bernedoodles still enjoy daily walks and exercise, so it’s a good idea to have outdoor space where they can stretch their legs.

If you suffer from allergies, Bernedoodles may be a great option, as their Poodle parents make their coats allergy-friendly. Bernedoodles also shed much less than their Bernese Mountain Dog parents, which is a huge bonus for most people. The curlier the coat, the less shedding and the more allergy-friendly they will be.

Merle is a pattern in the coat rather than a specific color. It consists of a solid base color – red/brown or back – and lighter blue, gray or reddish patches that create a speckled effect. Merle can alter traditional colors and patterns. Blue Merle is a term that describes white and gray patterns that together make the coat appear to have a bluish tint.

Our F1B Mini-Micro (Tiny) Bernedoodles Puppies will come in a variety of colors due to the poodle genetics in both parents.

Bernedoodle Coat Types:

The F1B Micro-Mini (Tiny) Bernedoodle puppies will have wavy hair with loose curls and be low to non-shedding. The curlier their coats, the more allergy-friendly they will be. Typically F1 Bernedoodles are suitable for people with mild allergies. Our F1b Micro (Tiny) Bernedoodle puppies can have two different types of coats in the same litter. Some will have wavy hair with loose curls very similar to F1 Bernedoodle puppies and will be very low to non-shedding. The others will have curlier hair like their poodle fathers and also be non-shedding.

You may wonder when you will know which coat type your Bernedoodle will have. By 2-3 weeks of age, the different coat types can be properly identified. Curly coated F1b Bernedoodles are best for people with moderate or severe allergies. If you’re allergic to K9 saliva, then you will also be allergic, regardless of the coat type.

Bernedoodle Sizes:

Many people mistakenly assume that all Bernedoodles are very large animals. This is not the case, as Mini Bernedoodle puppies can come in a range of sizes depending on the size of their parents. Micro (Tiny) Bernedoodle: 12-25 lbs with the average weight being 20lbs
Miniature Bernedoodles: 25-45 lbs with the average weight being 35lbs
Mini/Medium Bernedoodles: 35-55 lbs with the average weight being 45lbs
